What is two-phase orthodontic treatment?
Two-phase orthodontic treatment (or “phased treatment”) is a very specialized process that involves tooth straightening and facial changes. One advantage of two-phase treatment is to maximize growth opportunity to accomplish an ideal healthy, functional and aesthetic result.
Phase 1 Treatment:
Building the foundation for beautiful teeth and a functional bite.
Our goal of first phase treatment is to ensure that there is adequate space to accommodate the developing permanent teeth as well as to ensure that both the upper and lower jaw are developing in a harmonious relationship to one another. Children sometimes exhibit early signs of crowding and /or jaw discrepancies. Early orthodontic treatment may be indicated to alleviate potential crowding and/or improve a developing jaw discrepancy. If you feel that your child is exhibiting any of these conditions, early orthodontic treatment may be beneficial. Please see our tab on “Early Prevention” for more information.
Phase 2 Treatment:
Stay healthy and fine tune your bite.
Our goal of the second phase is to make sure each tooth has an exact location that is in harmony with the lips, cheeks, tongue and neighboring teeth. When this equilibrium is established, the teeth will function together properly resulting in a beautiful smile that boosts confidence and leaves you looking great!
